The Department of Design has strong relationships with Tisch's acclaimed Graduate Acting Program as well as with the innovative Department of Dance. Additionally, opportunities to design productions in the Department of Undergraduate Drama, along with increased involvement with the renowned Graduate Film Program, widen the scope of production experience for design students. Each year, design students work collaboratively and creatively on over 35 plays, films, and dance concerts within the Tisch School of the Arts.
Production is viewed as running in tandem with design classes. All productions are directed by professional directors, including such notable names as Barry Edelstein, Michael Mayer, Bart Sher, Beverly Smith-Dawson, Marcus Stern, Liz Swados, Doug Wager, Mark Wing-Davey, Robert Woodruff, and Liviu Ciulei, many of whom continue working relationships with Tisch design students after they graduate.
